How to Reduce Running Out of Stock

Operations3 min read

Running out of a product doesn't just cost one sale. It makes a shopkeeper lose a little trust in you — and if it happens too often, they'll start buying that product from someone else.

Know what's actually selling at each shop, not just overall.

Every shop is a little different. Knowing exactly what's moving where helps you restock at the right time, in the right place.

Keep extra stock of your best-selling products.

Fast-selling items need a bigger safety cushion than slow-moving ones. Treating every product the same is one of the biggest reasons stock runs out unexpectedly.

Give shopkeepers a heads-up if a delay is coming.

If you know stock might run late, tell them early. That honesty builds far more trust than staying quiet and letting them find out the hard way.

Plan ahead for busy seasons.

Festivals, weddings, and other predictable busy times need extra stock planned in advance — not scrambled together after demand has already spiked.

Stay in close touch with the brands you distribute for.

You can only avoid running out of stock if you know, ahead of time, when the brand itself might have supply delays.

Avoiding stock-outs isn't about stocking more of everything, everywhere. It's about having the right amount of the right product, in the right place, at the right time.
